About Integrative Dynamic Yoga
IDY - Integrative Dynamic Yoga is a systematic method that provides a means to enhance and "reintegrate" mind-body consciousness. IDY expounds Seven Principles of Synergy that are a fusion of traditional hatha yoga practices, mindfulness meditation, and the fundamental principles of exercise science, fitness, and functional movement. The IDY method is a means to optimal health, healing, mental and emotional well-being, self-expression, and spiritual awareness.
Integrative Dynamic Yoga
Integrative Dynamic Yoga (IDY) is based upon Kamie's study and practice in yoga, mindfulness meditation, Buddhism, life coaching, personal training focused on functional conditioning and movement, bodywork/massage, and fitness. IDY is a systematic method for teaching and applying yoga principles and practices that can be incorporated into and serve as the foundation for any yoga practice.
Integrative Dynamic Yoga is:
-
Integrative - combines diverse elements into a whole.
-
Dynamic - an interactive process relating to energy in motion.
-
Yoga - a means to cultivate mindfulness, awareness, and presence - the union of mind, body, and spirit. From this place of connection, we live, experience, express, and celebrate the gift of life moment-by-moment.
Seven Principles of Synergy:
Integrative Dynamic Yoga - IDY is utilizes Seven Principles of Synergy to "re-integrate" the mind, body, and spirit connection. The Seven Principles of Synergy are:
-
Integrative Principles of Alignment - Foundation, Muscular Activation and Integration, and Extension and Expansion to facilitate the movement of energy in and through the body to create Balanced Energetic Action and Mind-Body Centered Awareness.
-
Dynamic Movement and Sequencing - Integrated movement and sequencing for increasing strength, stability, endurance, agility, balance, range of motion, and flexibility to enhance physical and functional movement, Balanced Energetic Action, and Mind-Body Centered Awareness.
-
Balanced Energetic Action - The facilitation of energy and breath to optimize energetic forces and currents that sustain the body, a key component in Mind-Body Centered Awareness and function of the body.
-
Mind-Body Centered Awareness - the conscious awareness of the experiential mind-body as applied and experienced through Integrative Principles of Alignment, Dynamic Movement and Sequencing, Balanced Energetic Action. There are three aspects of consciousness - mindfulness, awareness, and presence.
-
Self-Expression - From a place of mindfulness, awareness and presence, Self-Expression is the deliberate action of simultaneously engaging, experiencing, and expressing one's "Self" in the world. Self-Expression is the outward demonstration of who and how you are moment-by-moment, through your attitude, thoughts, emotions, actions and words.
-
Self-Realization - Free-will as applied and experienced through consciously choosing one's attitude, perspective, mindset, and intention from a place of connection to something larger than oneself.
-
Recognition - The acknowledgement, acceptance, and embracing the connectedness of ALL things. Whatever you want to call IT, be it Universal Consciousness, Grace, Spirit, Energy, God, Everything or Nothing...IT IS and YOU ARE part of it. Through the Recognition of our connection we are able to fully be who we are and let our soul shine!
Why Develop a Yoga Style?
Let's talk...
When you start practicing or teaching yoga, at some point people will ask you, what type of yoga do you practice? In today's world you'll usually hear "vinyasa" or "yoga flow" or "hot yoga" or "restorative." And when I look at a yoga schedule, the classes are usually titled one of these. Rarely do I see specific traditions or styles that once occupied studios, such as Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara, or even Hatha Yoga. Truthfully, we've blended so many of these traditions that we're not sure "what type of yoga" we practice, and maybe it doesn't matter because "it's all yoga."
Integrative Dynamic Yoga is a blend, after all, it's the meaning of "integrative." However, I think that it is different from the generic labels of what's out there. IDY links back to foundational hatha yoga practices and teachings, yet meets the needs of today's yoga and spiritual seekers. IDY uses terms to assist with guiding alignment, mindfulness, and presence i.e., integration and expansion, mind-body centered awareness, and balanced energetic action. These are phrases that have intricacies that are used by IDY teachers to guide practitioners so that they can fully experience, express, and meet themselves in their yoga practice.
Integrative Dynamic Yoga also focuses on mindset by setting intention, encouraging expression, and opening to beauty, connection, and joy.
Elements of the Seven Principles of Synergy may show up in general non-descript yoga classes; however, the instruction and application of the principles are foundational to an IDY class. A yoga class is truly meant to be a journey, first a journey inward to discover and uncover, to open and receive, and a journey outward to experience, expand, and express. Integrative Dynamic Yoga let's your soul shine!
If this resonates with you, you're in the right place.
